What Looply is

Looply is a community platform for sharing pre-loved books through participating councils, organisations, and individually-run street libraries, and for sharing toys, clothing, furniture, and cookware directly between individuals (and with participating organisations). You contribute or list things you no longer want and claim things others have listed -- giving and receiving both earn you credit, and claiming or receiving is always free. Looply also operates the Book Benefactor program, through which an organisation can be publicly recognised for books donated through the platform. Looply is a product of Care Business Solution, ABN 52 726 559 485.

Who can use Looply

Looply doesn't currently verify age at signup. It's intended for use by adults, or by younger people with a parent or guardian's involvement -- particularly because sharing and claiming items and books can involve arranging an in-person hand-off. You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide when creating an account or a listing.

How sharing and claiming works

Books are claimed directly and picked up from the shelf location involved, within the pickup window shown at the time. Toys, clothing, furniture, and cookware work differently: whoever's listing an item reviews everyone who expresses interest and chooses who to accept, then both sides confirm once the hand-off has actually happened before any credit is granted for it. Accepting someone doesn't create a binding sale -- either side can still decide not to go ahead, though we'd ask you to say so rather than leave the other person waiting.

Credits aren't currency

Credits have no cash value, can't be sold, transferred, or redeemed for money, and exist only to recognise participation in the community. Looply may adjust how credits are calculated or granted at any time.

Your responsibilities

• Describe a book or item's condition honestly when you contribute or list it. Looply relies on self-reported condition rather than staff inspection — accuracy matters for everyone using the platform.
• Confirm receipt or a hand-off honestly, including reporting if a book or item's actual condition doesn't match what was declared, and only confirming a hand-off once it has genuinely happened.
• Only claim books or items for yourself, not to resell or redistribute commercially.
• If you've agreed to a hand-off, follow through or withdraw your interest promptly so the other person isn't left waiting. Arrange item pickups in a way you're comfortable with, and use your own judgement about meeting in a public place if you'd prefer not to share your exact address.
• If you ask for, or agree to share, another person's contact details through an item's contact-sharing feature, only use that information for arranging the hand-off it was shared for.
• If you use Looply on behalf of a council, organisation, or other group, you're responsible for the conduct of everyone with staff access to your organisation's account.

Items listed for a price

Some items may be listed for a price rather than for free. Any price is agreed directly between the two people involved -- Looply isn't a party to that agreement, doesn't process or handle any payment, and isn't responsible for it being honoured.

Hosting or attending a garage sale

Garage sales work differently from a claimed book or item: once you publish a garage sale, its address, date, and opening hours are visible to anyone browsing Looply, not just someone whose interest you've accepted. Looply has no role in, and no responsibility for, who shows up to a garage sale, what's sold there, any price agreed on the day, or anything else that happens at the event -- the same self-reported-condition and no-payment-processing principles above apply here too, just for a public event rather than a one-to-one hand-off. As a host, you're responsible for the accuracy of what you publish and for taking it down (or marking it inactive) if your plans change.

Content and conduct

Don't list anything illegal, unsafe, counterfeit, or that you don't have the right to give away, and keep messages and reviews honest and respectful. Looply may remove a listing, review, or other content, or restrict an account, where we reasonably believe this has been breached.

Book Benefactor program

If you submit book donation interest naming an organisation as a benefactor, that organisation's name and an aggregate estimate of books donated may be shown publicly on Looply's Book Benefactors page. Submitting this doesn't itself make any personal contact details public — see the Privacy Policy for what's shared and with whom.

Accountability

Repeated mismatches between declared and actual condition, a pattern of not following through on an accepted request or confirmed hand-off, or misuse of another person's shared contact details, are reviewed, and Looply may suspend or limit an account where there's a pattern of misuse.

No warranty

Books and items are provided as-is by the community. Looply doesn't inspect them before they're shared and can't guarantee their condition, and isn't liable for the condition of anything exchanged through the platform, or for what happens during an in-person hand-off arranged between two users -- whether that hand-off is with another individual or with a participating council or organisation.

Changes to these terms

Looply may update these terms from time to time as new features are added or existing ones change. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do -- continuing to use Looply after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia.
